About the Author

What a question I have to ask of myself without vainness. I see this as in part who am I, what is that which lifts me up and brushes my spirit.

I often refer back to my childhood and the advice of my parents and grandparents, which have cause for the mantra for me in my life as follows:

  • Always be a stand for yourself;
  • I am worthy of all things;
  • Self-Love;
  • Be a stand for those who cannot be a stand for themselves;
  • Live your life with integrity;
  • Be your word;
  • Honesty;
  • Compassionate;
  • Consideration of others with an empathetic heart and mind;
  • Courageous;
  • Loving.

The values that I have inherited from my parents, grandparents and my military service have ensconced within me the worthiness of service to my community and country whenever I have been called on to do so.

My military service commenced in 1967 as a young 17 year old who decided to join the Citizens Military Forces (CMF) during the Vietnam war to contribute in anyway that I could. My service continued until I won the only lottery of my life, I was called up for National Service (NS) in 1970.

My service to Australia and its worthy citizens ended in July 2018 after 51 years service as a Regular Army Officer and Reservist, is service which I am extremely proud of.

In the intervening years of service sport both in the military and outside the military was AFL football. AFL football was my passion, were I played, coached and mentored both at Senior and Junior levels. On moving to the Barossa Valley where I currently reside I accepted the position of Director for AFLW football at a local club.

I am currently in my fourth year as President of my local RSL and see my position as a vital conduit within the Veteran Community and the Local Community. The President has a significant role where the RSL contributes to the welfare, advocacy and general wellbeing of Veterans and. their families. As President I am proud of the ongoing support we provide to our community in sponsoring sport for women and men and homeless services in conjunction with other NFP’ organsiations.
